North Central Texas relies heavily on General Aviation (GA) facilities to enhance growth and economic prosperity. Through connectivity to global markets, the region’s GA facilities provide economic development opportunities, the ability to conduct business in local communities, and movement of time-sensitive cargo, as well as leisure and tourism opportunities throughout the world.
The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) offers a brochure that clearly defines the frequently misunderstood term “general aviation” and illustrates the region’s aviation facilities including public-use airports, public-use heliports, military airports, private airports and private heliports. Facilities funding is explained, and future changes in GA aircraft design, technologies, airspace, avionics, data and procedures are noted.
The brochure highlights opportunities for communities to support their local GA airports. Stakeholder involvement is highly encouraged to protect the sustainability of GA facilities; identify and implement solutions to incompatible land use; verify that the airport infrastructure is adequate, and actively engage
local residents through outreach activities.
